Conference

What is “Conference”?

ASCE is divided into 10 regions (9 comprised of North American areas shown to the right). Georgia falls into Region 5 alongside Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico. Each region hosts a series of events such as student conferences and symposia. These events typically occur in the Spring. They are designed to provide ASCE student members with opportunities to connect, have fun, and promote professional and personal growth.

Competition Teams:

The Southeast Symposium, sometimes referred to as just “Conference”, is an annual event where students from Region 5 compete against each other. There are many ASCE competitions, ranging from older competitions like Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge to newer competitions like Timber-Strong and the ASCE Construction Institute Student Symposium Competition. These competitions are great opportunities for members to gain technical experience, meet other ASCE members, and become the future civil engineers of tomorrow!

Many members at Georgia Tech’s chapter of ASCE have been, will be, or are currently members of our competition teams, including our GT ASCE officer board (learn more about them and their competition involvements here). If you’re curious about a certain competition or Conference in general don’t hesitate to reach out to our Conference Chair, David Sparks, or any other GT ASCE officer. We are always thrilled to welcome new members to our competition teams!
